A Bit Competitive?

Howdy!

Today we made our grand return to St. Paul's Outside the Walls! In other words, we went there for our other class. It was nice being back though, as I did really like the church. However, it was quite different being there for Archaeology rather than our Christianity and the Roman Empire class. We had a much different focus while we were there, though we did see some of the same stuff. Today it felt like we practically flew through the basilica. We stopped to look at a few things, but were not in the church itself for long. We also discovered that Jesus really does like to play hide and seek with us as we thought that we already knew where He would be, only to find that He was not in the same chapel as before. Sadly, we did not have time to go looking for Him.

Dominican spotting for our friend Audrey!!

After our brief visit inside the basilica, we continued on to the cloister/museum and saw mostly the same stuff, although some of the explanations for what we saw were different which threw us off a bit. We also checked out a part of the excavations of the old monastery which we had not yet seen. After class, we stopped by the gift shop to pick up some tasty chocolate recommended to us by our lovely friend, Devon, who studied abroad here last summer.

Yes, we have the same expression as always - super excited!!

In our afternoon class, Kelsey did her presentation on St. Augustine, which went quite well! I enjoyed hearing her explain more about his life and his return to the Church. Following class, we went to the lovely church near the school for adoration, only to find that the Blessed Sacrament had already been reposed. We decided to stay in the main chapel for our holy hour, which turned out to be a wonderful and much needed time for both of us. We love getting to spend time with Jesus! :)

Here's the lovely church!

Once we returned to our apartment for the evening is when things got quite interesting. It started out uneventful enough with us each Skyping people from back home. Then, Kelsey showed me her blog post she wrote for yesterday. In my defense, I merely singed a tiny corner of the towel; there were no flames like when Kelsey lit hers on fire. Apparently, that girl is more competitive than I thought though, because she ended up burning something today too - her thumb. I did feel quite bad about her thumb, because it does look quite painful. Fortunately, she is being a very good sport about it. I kissed it better for her (I'm not really sure how that came about) and she's been trying to keep it in cool water, so hopefully she will recover quickly!

We had gelato to help her feel better, but it ran out

At least she found a use for the large shot glass

Non toccare le serpentine di riscaldamento,
Allison and Kelsey
