Buenosera!
It
was Day 2 of our weekend adventure with the group from AUR. We got up and
headed to Florence. Allison and I were pretty excited to explore all the
churches! We had a walking tour with a fairly amusing tour guide, and then we
were set free.
The government building (I think)
A giant turtle, because why not?
Ponte Vecchio- a bridge with a bunch of shops on it!!
First, we ate lunch. Then we decided to hike up the hill to see
San Miniato al Monte. The church was set up unlike any we had seen before, but
it was really beautiful. Then there was the view from the top of the hill:
absolutely astounding. Florence is very pretty from so high up! We found another church partway down the hill too.
More steps! Sorry Allison....

Inside!
Yay mosaics!

So purty
San Salvatore al Monte
After we made it back down the hill, we tried to go to Santa Croce, but there was a really long line and apparently you have to pay to get in, so we nixed that idea and got gelato instead. I know, not necessarily the best trade-off, but you don’t have to pay to get into churches in Rome!! After getting a little lost and stressed out, we found something (Someone).
Jesus knows us well.
Chiesa della Badia Florentina
Our next adventure included the museum at San Marco, where we saw a bunch of Fra Angelico's paintings. They were pretty sweet! Then we went to the 5:00 mass in English at the Duomo and headed back to meet our group to go back to the hotel.
Outside of Duomo. It's quite difficult to get the whole thing in one picture with the baptistery in the way.
Inside
We love mass!
Dinner was included with our hotel stay, and it was super yummy. Some super ditzy girls ended up sitting with us, so that was an adventure to say the least.... For our final burst of activity in the evening, Allison and I decided to be daring and actually bought a drink at the bar (inside the hotel). Our roommates suggested a mimosa, and we, being the ignorant goodie-two-shoes that we are, just went with it. The bartender made fun of us a lot because apparently a mimosa is a morning drink..... like we would know the difference.... Hakuna matata. It wasn't too bad though! It was probably the best alcoholic beverage I've had so far! Bed time for us!

Uno e fatto,
Kelsey and Allison
