Just Chillin'

giovedi, 2 giugno 2016

Ciao!
Today was our most chill day thus far, both literally and figuratively. It's an Italian holiday, Republic Day, so we weren't sure if we wanted to go outside and brave the crowd. Rome is crazy on a normal day, so the idea of it being even more crazy was a tad intimidating. It rained during the morning anyway, and then it got cold (68 degrees F). We stayed in and tried to get started on our papers and presentations. We would rather not do school, but we kinda have to when our class is accelerated and we have 3,500 words apiece to write. Yay. We also did our first loads of laundry without starting anything on fire, so that was exciting!

At least one of us is being productive

She wasn't too pleased about my photography skills this time

Around 5, we decided to get out of the apartment and went to mass at the Basilica di Santa Maria di Trastevere. The church was so beautiful and Jesus was there, so that was a comfort. We also spotted a Franciscan Sister at mass!!!!

There were quite a lot of people out, but not as many as we were expecting, so we watched some of the attractions and went wandering to find a restaurant for dinner. We ended up finding a few churches instead, not that I'm complaining...

GIANT BUBBLES YAAAAAS!! (And a random cute child)

We had a hard time choosing a restaurant because Allison and I are both indecisive, and we were looking for something somewhat cheap. We finally decided on Trattoria de Gli Amici, which we were pleased to discover was run by the lay community that we stumbled upon and said night prayer with on our first night in Rome. See, follow the Catholics and good things come. Like food. It was really yummy! For appetizers, Allison finally got to try her stuffed zucchini flower and I tried some sort of rice and tomato sauce fried in something. Our main dish was also scrumptious. I had a pasta pork dish, and Allison was crazy and had octopus in her pasta. I've tried to understand her taste in food, but honestly, I just can't keep up. She definitely keeps things interesting! There was a guy playing the accordion near us, so we got to hear some quality music right there. Learning the accordion is definitely on my bucket list. Unfortunately, they're not exactly cheap- I checked Craigslist. (Cam, I hope you're proud!)

Appetizers!

More fooooooood!

We strolled home and Facetimed Allison's parents, who were more amused by the size of my mouth in the previous post than starting things on fire. We also talked to David! By we, I mean Allison talked to them and I chimed in whenever I felt like being sassy. Buuuuut, that's all for now since I need sleep after staying up too late watching Franciscan videos. No regrets. Next stop, the Vatican!
