Last Evening in Rome!

giovedi, 28 giugno 2016

What a day! We started out the day with our archaeology finals, then submitted our essays online, so now we are officially done with our papers!

After archaeology, we decided to take a break and go return to a church we had previously visited. We were just starting to pray a rosary, then a group filed into the chapel. It turns out they were about to have mass (and it was in English!), so we stuck around for that. It was fun crashing the surprise mass. :)

We stopped to get a couple of sandwiches for lunch and returned to the school for our Christianity exam. After that, we were officially done with classes!

Earlier in the week, Kelsey saw a sign for a prayer and music service at the Lateran in preparation for the feast of the Nativity of St. John the Baptist, so we went to that! It was very nice and included music by the choir and organ as well as readings on the life of St. John the Baptist. Kelsey was thrilled about the organ, as could be expected, and I really enjoyed it as well!

Some cute sisters sitting in front of us!

Another huge organ

SING FOR ME!! (cue dramatic Phantom of the Opera music)

So glad we decided to come!

Following the service, we returned to our favorite restaurant we have found here in Rome, Da Giovanni!! The food is so delicious and the waiters are so friendly! Like I said the first time I wrote about it, it feels like you are guests of some lovely Italian grandparents who are cooking up a lovely meal. It is such a nice, comfortable atmosphere and we were glad to return for our final dinner in Rome!

Tortellini soup for Kelsey, pesto gnocchi for me!

Scallopina alla Giovanni (veal with mushroom, peas, and sauce)

Ricotta cheesecake! We may have taken a bite before snapping a picture...

Great evening!

After dinner, we took the bus most of the way back, but stopped a couple stops early for a late night impulse buy of milk. As soon as we bought it, we sat down on a bench to have a few sips. Apparently Kelsey caught the attention of some guy working at a restaurant, who proceeded to laugh at the spectacle of her drinking milk straight from the liter bottle. I missed witnessing the exchange, but she was quite pleased about it, as it isn't all that often that people in Rome acknowledge your presence as you walk by, let alone let out a chuckle or smile.

Once we returned to our apartment from our final evening of enjoying Rome, we packed up our suitcases and got some rest before heading up to Venice!

A dondolo i baffi di latte,

Allison and Kelsey
