Some Modern Churches

mercoledi, 8 giugno 2016

Guten tag!
This morning for our archaeology class, we went to a new part of Rome (for us). It used to be outside the city walls, back in the day, but now the city has grown to include it. We only found one church in the area, so it was a little boring. It was a "modern" church, built in 1906. It was quite different from all the other churches we've seen so far. (Is anyone keeping a tally??)

Santa Maria in Liberatrice

We got our midterm over with in our Christianity class- a relief. It wasn't too difficult, so that made us happy. Being Catholic definitely helped. :)

We had planned on going to mass at Santa Maria Regina della Pace, which is where our nice little adoration chapel is, but we were super hungry and mass wasn't until 7, so we looked up a church that was right down the street from our apartment and decided to go there instead so we could snack first. (Don't worry, we still had time for our hour fast before communion.) Unfortunately, when we scurried downstairs for mass, the church gate was locked! Major sad face. Allison and I decided to continue down the street, just in case we happened to find another church with a 7:00 mass, but we weren't finding anything. The other side of the Tiber has most of the churches. Just as we were about to give up, we heard church bells! We quickly ran to the source and were overjoyed to discover that mass was just about to start! Jesus takes good care of us. St. Francis was there too, so that was fancy. Also, we didn't have to play hide-and-seek trying to find the tabernacle, which was nice. We're going to miss being able to find mass anytime, anywhere when we go home.

Santi Francesco e Caterina Patroni D'Italia
(This is a modern church as well)

After mass, we actually made something new for dinner, AND we followed a recipe (kinda). Now we have a total of 4 things on rotation for dinner. We are so good.

Then we tried to buy train and bus tickets for our weekend adventures. Hopefully that all works out! More on that later.
Gesù ci ama,
Kelsey and Allison
