ALL THE CHURCHES!

giovedi, 15 giugno 2016

Yo yo!
Once upon a time, we went adventuring today! Yaaay! We went to some churches for archaeology: Santa Maria Maggiore, Santa Prassede, and Santa Pudenziana. Santa Prassede had what is traditionally held to be the pillar where Jesus was scourged. All the churches had some beautiful, and extremely old, mosaics.

Hooray for mosaics!

During our lunch break, we decided to go church hopping instead of going back to our apartment. We went down the road connecting Santa Maria Maggiore and San Giovanni in Laterano and hit all the churches in between! When we got to the Lateran, we decided to save the inside for when we go for class and instead prayed on the Holy Stairs. The Holy Stairs were brought back by St. Helena, the mother of Constantine, and are believed to be the stairs where Pontius Pilate stood when he condemned Jesus to death.

We found Momma Mary hiding! Now we know where Jesus gets it from...

Time for fooooods! Allison actually decided to play it safe this time and got Carbonara, while I ordered a pizza that I thought would be about half this size. It was all delicious!

We like food a lot

Dessert! We weren't sure what it was before we ate it. Eating it didn't give us any clues either.

For our Christianity class, we journeyed to the catacombs of St. Agnes. This was pretty sweet! It's quite magnificent how the early Christians were able to dig these intricate and vast graves that went on for many miles and levels.

I just thought you would all want to see how cute this palm tree is

We finally made it home and did some more homework. We have a lot of work ahead of us, so we ask for patience from our faithful blog followers! Love you all!

Albero di palma carino,
Kelsey and Allison
