Study Abroad Includes Studying??

lunedi, 13 giugno 2016

Hey friends!

I hate to break it to you, but unfortunately, there isn't much to blog about as it has been a relatively uneventful day (at least until Kelsey got stressed). Rather than visiting an archaeological site for our morning class, we had a midterm today. Fortunately, it wasn't too complex and we already saw online that we each got an A, so that was comforting to see!

Since we got out of the exam early, we had time to go grocery shopping, which was much needed as we were still out of breakfast food. When we returned, I finished preparing for my presentation in our Christianity class before returning to school. Meanwhile, Kelsey tried to find all sorts of ways to stretch whatever muscles we must have used while hiking in Assisi. Between that and her lovely singing, there is never a dull moment living with Kelsey!

The downside of actually having both of our classes on campus is that I had to encounter my lovely friend, the Stairs of Doom, a second time that day. 231 steps just is not a nice thing to do to a person twice in a day, especially after practically walking up a mountain two days before (our legs are still feeling that one). Here's a nice series of photos to introduce you to these steps.

They looked interesting when we first saw them. Then we found out we had to climb them daily.

They look innocent, but are sloped just enough to be killer on the legs

Then the oh so menacing ascent

Just when you think you are done, you cross the street to find these

Fortunately, I'm slowly getting used to them, but there is still a slight bit of dread each time we leave to walk to class. We finally made it up all of the steps (plus the steps to get to our classroom once we reached campus, 51 more). This afternoon, I had my big presentation for the Christianity class, but at least my topic was interesting: St. Luke the Evangelist! The presentation went well, so I was quite pleased! It was so nice to get it over with! Kelsey has hers on Wednesday, so she'll be done with hers in just a couple of days.

After class, we tried to go to the church nearby for adoration for a little while, but it seemed as though there were a bunch of people there dressed up for some event, so we decided to wait to come back another day since we have to walk through the church to get to the adoration chapel. We figured crashing a wedding or something of the sort would not be ideal.

Once we made it back for the evening, we basically continued working on presentations and papers, so nothing too adventurous for the night. Then, suddenly we heard blasts of air horns and cheering from outside, only to remember our professor mentioning that the Italian national soccer (or football if you so prefer) team was playing tonight. I guess they get quite into their sports!

Ci sono così tanti passaggi,
Allison and Kelsey

  1. I've never seen some of those stairs you take to class. But you live in Trastevere, right? Maybe there's a less-stairs way to get to campus. :)

    1. Hmm, I'm not sure. It seems to be the way that everyone goes that lives near us, but perhaps we could do some exploring!
